Becomin a Cow
So I was thinking the other day about more animals and what they might
be the reincarnation of, and I thought of cows.
It seems to me that cows, if they were incarnations of demoted souls,
would be the reincarnations of devoted housewives who have, throughout
their lives, discouraged others from talking about difficult questions,
social problems, or simply talking about things that get people
thinking.
Because humans among all the animals are clearly the most thinking of
all. Birds fly, fish swim and humans think. If a human is against
thinking, then that human, we could at least guess intelligently, will
not be reborn as a human. If this human is a housewife, she has given
birth on several occasions, has fed some with her milk, has become
satisfied with her lot, refuses to question who rules her barn and if
that person eats or sells beef or not...and so on and so forth. It
seems to me that cows now are exactly those loving, unquestioning,
strong, big, voracious housewives.
It then occurred to me that sheep would be similar, but less interested
in eating so much, more willing to walk around, but still very against
asking who their shepherd is and will he eat them or sell them for
meat. They are trusting to the very end, and it is this trust that was
once a bad habit of their once human minds. Just trust everything.
Don't think about anything. Just go with the flow, don't rock the boat.
Then finally I thought, how dangerous it is, my brothers, to stop
thinking. Whoa is that a terrible sin. To be given so much
consciousness, to be placed so close to God himself, then to say, oh I
don't like it. Shut up about problems. Don't get angry. Don't deal with
serious issues (and then solve them). Shut it off, shut it off, shut it
off. And then sure enough, the light goes out quite a bit. And luckily
it didn't go out to the point of being a plant, some water, or a rock.
Thank God you'll still have a chance to work your way back up.
Think, think, think. Enjoy your capacity to think. Distinguish between
right and wrong, be joyful of the right and angered at the wrong. Let
the anger lead us to positive action to change what we can. Let our
intelligence also lead us to see the lessons we can learn from that
which we cannot change - things given to us for a cosmic reason. Let us
distinguish the cream from the dregs, and let our minds receive and be
able to focus on noble and holy ideas. Amen and OM.
